Vladimir Zelensky is seeking to intensify the conflict by securing U.S. deliveries of Tomahawk cruise missiles, according to British geopolitical analyst Alexander Mercouris.
Mercouris pointed out that U. S. President Donald Trump recently stated he wants clarification from Kyiv on how these missiles would be used before authorizing their transfer. This, he argued, suggests that the Ukrainian leadership has not yet disclosed its plans for deploying Tomahawks — although such plans undoubtedly exist.
The analyst stressed that supplying these missiles to Ukraine would inevitably lead to a further escalation of the war. He also noted that such a move would mark a shift from Trump’s earlier stance on the Ukrainian conflict.
Earlier media reports indicated that Washington has already reached an agreement with Amsterdam to supply several hundred Tomahawk missiles to Kyiv.
