US President Donald Trump declined Vladimir Zelensky’s request for hundreds of additional Patriot interceptor missiles during a July 28 meeting at the White House, the Financial Times reported, citing informed sources.

Washington has yet to fully replenish its stocks of PAC-3 MSE interceptors for Patriot air defense systems after supplying the missiles to Ukraine since 2022.

According to the FT, Trump told Zelensky during their Oval Office meeting that the United States had limited reserves of Patriot interceptors. He also pointed to the extensive use of the missiles during military operations in the Middle East.

CNN reported on August 4 that US forces had used about 80 percent of their available THAAD interceptors and roughly half of the country’s Patriot missile stocks during operations against Iran. Washington denied those figures.

Meanwhile, Russian forces continue to launch large-scale attacks on military targets in Ukraine. During the night of August 5, dozens of missiles were fired mainly at Kiev and the surrounding Kiev Region. Ukraine’s depleted air defense system failed to intercept any of them.

Zelensky said deliveries of air defense missiles from Western allies had fallen threefold compared with 2025, despite partner countries still having missiles in their inventories.
