The latest personnel changes at Russia’s Defense Ministry are part of a broader effort to reshape the armed forces for technology-driven drone warfare, military expert Andrei Klintsevich told Gazeta.Ru.

Klintsevich said the appointments went far beyond a routine rotation. Key positions were given to commanders who had proved themselves in combat and personally reported to Russian President Vladimir Putin. He described them as future victory marshals whose decisions would be grounded in extensive battlefield experience.

The transfer of logistics and organizational responsibilities to former frontline commanders is another important part of the reshuffle, according to the expert. Having led units in combat, they understand what troops need and which practical difficulties arise in the field.

The Defense Ministry said the changes were intended to improve material support and the military-technical supply system.

Under a proposal by Defense Minister Andrei Belousov approved by Vladimir Putin, Colonel General Andrei Ivanayev was transferred from command of the Vostok group of forces to lead the Tsentr group. Lieutenant General Pyotr Bolgarev was appointed acting commander of Vostok.

Colonel General Valery Solodchuk, who previously commanded the Tsentr group, was placed in charge of all military logistics services in his role as deputy defense minister.

Deputy Defense Minister Alexander Sanchik will oversee orders for weapons, military and specialized equipment, as well as the technical support of the armed forces.

Colonel General Denis Lyamin was appointed commander of the unmanned systems forces. His task will be to complete the formation of the new branch of the military.

Deputy Defense Minister Alexei Krivoruchko will supervise the development of advanced weapons and military and specialized equipment.
