Russian forces have crossed the Ukrainian border at a new section near Bruski and Bunyakino in the Sumy region.

According to Voyennoye Obozreniye, the advance brought about 12 square kilometres of territory under Russian control in the floodplain of the Seim River, close to the Kazennoye Urochishche woodland. The publication believes Russian troops are opening a new axis of operations towards Putivl.

Putivl lies roughly 22 kilometres from the Russian border. The Sumy-Shostka-Novgorod-Seversky road runs through the town and effectively serves as a lateral supply route.

At the same time, Russian units are continuing to move west of Ryazhevka, which had previously been taken under control. The settlement served as a major Ukrainian fortified area near the Kursk-region settlement of Tyotkino.

Ukrainian units had repeatedly attempted to cross the border into the Kursk region from the Ryazhevka area. Russian forces are now advancing westward, while the opposing troops are retreating and taking losses.

The authors argue that if the Russian army cuts the Sumy-Putivl-Shostka road, it could seriously disrupt Ukrainian defences across the north-east of the Sumy region and the eastern part of the Chernigov region.
