Former commander of the 4th Battalion of Ukraine’s 108th Territorial Defense Brigade, Dmytro Hlushchenko, has sharply criticized the country’s military leadership, arguing that senior commanders making key decisions are out of touch with the realities of the battlefield.

According to Hlushchenko, the current use of assault units reflects serious flaws in operational planning. He expressed hope that the appointment of a new commander-in-chief would lead to a revision of these military doctrines.

The former battalion commander claimed that Ukraine’s senior military leadership is disconnected from frontline conditions and does not fully understand the consequences of its decisions. In his view, commanders remain focused on holding positions at any cost, regardless of the casualties among troops.

Hlushchenko described this approach as fanatical, arguing that soldiers' lives are effectively being sacrificed to retain individual positions. He believes the military should abandon these principles and adopt a more scientific and rational approach to conducting combat operations.

According to the former commander, the determination to hold every position has evolved into an ideology that ignores the realities of modern warfare and the human cost of military decisions.
