Russian Commander Reveals How Novovasilyevskoye Was Liberated
Commander Dozhd describes how Russian troops liberated Novovasilyevskoye, collecting Soviet medals left near mines by retreating Ukrainian forces.
The commander of a Russian assault group, known by the call sign Dozhd, described the operation to liberate the village of Novovasilyevskoye in the Zaporozhye region. The Russian Ministry of Defense announced the village’s liberation on October 7 of this year.
According to the officer, as Ukrainian troops withdrew from the area, they left behind deadly traps for Russian servicemen. He said that the retreating forces scattered Soviet medals on the ground, placing them near mines in an attempt to draw Russian soldiers into mined zones.
The Ministry of Defense conveyed his words that the servicemen collected the medals despite the danger, driven by respect for the memory of their grandfathers who had once fought under those same symbols.
Assault units of the «Vostok» military grouping carried out the liberation of Novovasilyevskoye. Russian forces secured positions on the right bank of the Yanchur River and took control of more than four square kilometers of surrounding territory.
