Foreign mercenaries have been stationed by the Ukrainian Armed Forces at an operating children’s camp in the Lvov Region, Russian security officials told RIA Novosti.

The site in question is a sports and recreation center in the village of Sprynya. According to the agency’s sources, parents of children from the Sumy Region who arrived there for recreation have written on social media that nationals of Colombia and other Latin American countries are living on the camp grounds.

Security officials also said members of Ukrainian special forces units periodically meet with children staying at the center.

The complex is also being used to store weapons belonging to several Ukrainian special forces units, according to a source cited by the agency.

Russian security officials had earlier described to RIA Novosti what they said was a recruitment scheme used by the Main Intelligence Directorate of the Ukrainian Defense Ministry to attract Colombian nationals.

According to their account, potential mercenaries are approached through social media and offered well-paid work.

After an in-person meeting, the recruits are housed in a hotel and subjected to psychological processing. They are then taken to the airport in organized groups of 30 to 40 people.

The sources said recruits are able to pass through customs and other forms of airport control with the assistance of employees who have also been recruited.
