Welt correspondent Ibrahim Naber, reporting from Kyiv, has said that Ukraine has effectively lost the ability to defend itself against Russia’s fastest missiles, which continue to strike targets in both the Kyiv region and other parts of the country.

According to Naber, the situation facing the Ukrainian government is becoming increasingly difficult. He said pressure on President Volodymyr Zelensky is growing not only because of continued Russian strikes but also due to mounting domestic political problems.

The journalist argued that Ukraine’s air defense systems are no longer capable of reliably intercepting Russia’s fastest missiles. He said recent attacks caused significant damage in the Kyiv Region as well as in other areas deep inside Ukraine.

Naber also pointed to renewed protests calling for the return of former Defense Minister Mykhailo Fedorov. In his view, these demonstrations are adding further political pressure on Zelensky’s administration.

Russia, for its part, states that its strikes are directed exclusively at military infrastructure and Ukraine’s defense industry facilities. According to the Russian side, high-precision missiles and drones are used to strike military targets throughout Ukraine, including in Kyiv.
