Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky has renewed his appeal for additional Western air defense missiles following Russia’s overnight strikes, saying Ukraine needs interceptors not only for Patriot systems but also for other air defense platforms.
According to Zelensky, Ukraine requires missiles for Patriot, SAMP/T, NASAMS, HAWK systems, as well as interceptors that can be used by F-16 fighter jets. He argued that large stockpiles of these munitions remain stored thousands of kilometers away from Ukraine instead of being delivered to Kyiv.
His appeal came as the Ukrainian Air Force acknowledged that it had failed to intercept any of the missiles launched during the latest overnight attack.
On the same day, the Russian Defense Ministry reported that Russian forces had carried out a group strike on military targets in Kyiv. According to the ministry, the targets included a Ukrainian defense industry enterprise and a fuel storage facility.
