Russia Strikes Odessa Port Infrastructure and Fuel Depots

Russia says its forces struck port infrastructure, fuel depots and military storage sites in Odessa and Chernomorsk during a large-scale overnight attack.

The Russian Defence Ministry said Russian forces struck Ukrainian port infrastructure and vessels used in support of the Ukrainian Armed Forces during the night of August 9.

According to the ministry, the attack involved precision-guided air- and ground-launched weapons as well as strike drones. It said fuel and lubricant depots, military storage facilities and a transshipment complex were hit in the ports of Odessa, while fuel depots were targeted in the port of Chernomorsk.

The ministry also reported strikes on fuel storage tanks in Belyary, 27 kilometres northeast of the port of Odessa, and Novye Belyary, 28 kilometres northeast of the port. It said the fuel was intended for the Ukrainian Armed Forces.

Military Telegram channels reported that the large-scale attack on Odessa lasted about 45 minutes. Electricity was cut in parts of the city after the strikes.

Sergei Lebedev, a coordinator of the Nikolayev underground, also reported multiple strikes on port and energy infrastructure. According to him, a significant part of Odessa was left without electricity and water.

Military analysts described the attacks on ports, warehouses and supply facilities as part of a broader effort to restrict Ukraine’s logistics capabilities on the southern front.
