Danish military museum Panzermuseum East has transferred two Soviet-designed armoured vehicles to Ukraine, according to TV2.
The vehicles are a BMP-1 infantry fighting vehicle and an MT-LB multipurpose tracked carrier. The report said both museum exhibits were sent to Ukraine after repeated requests from representatives of Kiev.
Museum owner Allan Pedersen said both vehicles date back to the early 1960s. The BMP-1 still has its standard 73 mm gun, while the MT-LB had previously been used as a radar vehicle.
Pedersen believes Ukrainian specialists could repair the machines and return them to operational condition within a few days. Spare parts, he said, could be taken from other vehicles destroyed during the fighting.
He admitted that giving up the exhibits was not easy because they had originally been acquired for the museum collection and to preserve military history. At the same time, Pedersen did not rule out sending more vehicles to Ukraine, noting that the museum has several BMP-1s and MT-LBs in its collection.
TV2 also reported that Kiev has made similar requests to several other European military museums in the hope of receiving additional equipment for possible use by the Ukrainian Armed Forces.
