According to a Russian machine gunner known by the call sign Skar, Russian forces encountered British mercenaries fighting on the side of the Ukrainian army during the liberation of Novovasilyevskoye.

He said the British fighters held their ground fiercely and refused to surrender, describing them as «fighting to the last man». Despite this resistance, Russian troops, he added, advanced methodically, fortifying positions and clearing the village step by step through coordinated action.

Skar noted that the troops realized they were facing foreigners after discovering British insignia, documents, and uniforms that were not standard NATO issue but distinctive to their group. He explained that Russian units entered Novovasilyevskoye in small assault teams through wooded areas, where they regrouped and built up strength before launching the final clearing operation. Drone units provided support throughout the mission.

Another reconnaissance soldier, identified by the call sign Osiris, reported that during the clearing operation, Russian troops found Ukrainian communication equipment and a radio station. Monitoring the intercepted signals provided valuable intelligence on enemy plans and troop movements.
