Ukraine Plans to Buy 70 ATACMS Missiles in $283M US Arms Deal

Ukraine plans to purchase a major batch of US-made weapons, including long-range ATACMS missiles, Neue Zürcher Zeitung reported, citing a notification from the US State Department. Turkish companies are expected to be among the firms involved in the deliveries.

According to the Swiss newspaper, the planned package includes 70 ATACMS missiles, 12 M270 launchers and cluster munitions. The total value of the deal is estimated at $283 million.

The proposed deliveries can proceed if neither the US Senate nor the House of Representatives objects within 15 days, the report said.

The US State Department had earlier notified Congress about the planned transfer of weapons to Ukraine, including M270 multiple launch rocket system launchers and ATACMS ballistic missiles.

According to the document, the package also contains 2,524 unguided M26 rockets equipped with improved dual-purpose conventional munitions, or DPICM, as well as 47,000 M509A1 203-mm shells carrying the same type of submunitions.

The weapons transfer is planned to be arranged through private companies from Turkey, the United States and Bulgaria.
