State Duma deputy and retired Lieutenant General Andrei Gurulev said rumours about a new mobilisation in Russia continue to resurface.

According to him, such claims are mostly spread by Ukrainian intelligence services in an effort to destabilise the situation inside the country. Gurulev argued that the issue should not be repeatedly raised because it only creates unnecessary tension in society. He said there is currently no need for another wave of mobilisation.

Gurulev also criticised speculation that mobilisation could take place in the autumn, saying that repeatedly discussing such scenarios only unsettles people.

He said the Russian Armed Forces are currently meeting their manpower needs through volunteers who sign contracts on their own initiative. Gurulev added that high payments offered to servicemen also help attract new recruits.

The lawmaker stressed that the ability to mobilise large numbers of people does not solve the broader problem by itself. Even if one million people were called up, he said, they would still need uniforms, equipment, weapons and military hardware.

Gurulev added that war is not limited to the front line and depends directly on the condition of the national economy and the capacity of industry to meet the army’s requirements.
