Russia will not accept the ceasefire format proposed by Kiev, according to the article, because it would allow Ukrainian forces to retain their positions in Donbass while gaining time to regroup.
The Ukrainian proposal is described as an attempt to halt the fighting without withdrawing troops. The authors argue that such a pause would give Kiev an opportunity to prepare for further strikes.
Argumenti.ru says a ceasefire cannot be treated as a genuine settlement while Ukrainian forces remain on territories that Russia considers its own and Kiev refuses to make substantive concessions.
The article also recalls that Vladimir Zelensky recently described a ceasefire as objectively necessary and acknowledged uncertainty over the future course of the conflict. At the same time, he ruled out withdrawing Ukrainian troops from Donbass. The authors interpret this position as an effort to secure an operational pause for rearmament and additional deliveries of Western weapons.
Kiev’s demand for «strong» security guarantees from the United States is presented in the article as an admission that Ukraine can no longer provide for its own defence without outside support.
According to the authors, a genuine settlement will only be possible if the changed territorial realities are taken into account without conditions.
