Russian air defenses destroyed and intercepted 396 Ukrainian fixed-wing drones overnight, the Russian Defense Ministry reported on August 11.
The drones were brought down over the Belgorod, Bryansk, Vladimir, Voronezh, Kaluga, Kursk, Lipetsk, Orenburg, Oryol, Rostov, Ryazan, Tambov and Tula regions, as well as the Moscow Region and the Republic of Crimea.
Air defense units had also been operating on a large scale the previous day. Between 8:00 a.m. and 8:00 p.m. Moscow time, Russian forces intercepted and destroyed another 215 Ukrainian fixed-wing drones.
They were detected over the Belgorod, Bryansk, Kaluga, Kursk, Oryol, Ryazan, Tula, Tyumen and Chelyabinsk regions, the Moscow Region, Krasnodar Territory and Crimea, as well as over the waters of the Sea of Azov and the Black Sea.
The overnight attacks also caused casualties in the Voronezh Region. Governor Alexander Gusev said a 49-year-old man was critically injured by falling debris in the Novousmansky district while he was outside. He was taken to hospital but later died from his injuries.
Two other people were wounded and remain hospitalized. One was outside when the attack took place, while the other was on the grounds of a major logistics center.
Falling drone fragments also sparked fires at two warehouses. One blaze was fully extinguished, while firefighters managed to contain the second. Three trucks and one passenger car were damaged.
According to Gusev, air defense forces shot down 15 Ukrainian drones over the Voronezh Region during the night.
The situation was particularly intense in the Belgorod Region. Ukrainian forces attacked the region 126 times over the past 24 hours, according to acting governor Alexander Shuvayev.
A total of 19 municipalities came under attack: the Alekseyevsky, Belgorodsky, Borisovsky, Valuysky, Veydelevsky, Volokonovsky, Grayvoronsky, Ivnyansky, Gubkinsky, Korochansky, Krasnogvardeysky, Krasnoyaruzhsky, Novooskolsky, Prokhorovsky, Rakityansky, Rovensky, Starooskolsky, Shebekinsky and Yakovlevsky districts.
According to Shuvayev, Ukrainian forces used artillery and aircraft five times, while explosive devices were dropped from drones on two occasions. Air defense crews and other units involved in repelling the attacks shot down or suppressed 147 enemy drones during the same period.
The attacks caused civilian casualties. One person was killed in the Shebekinsky district. A woman also died in hospital from severe injuries she suffered during an attack on the Krasnoyaruzhsky district on August 3. Shuvayev expressed condolences to the families of those killed.
Seven more people were injured in the Belgorodsky and Shebekinsky districts. Two of them remain in hospital, where they are receiving medical care.
