Russian air defenses intercepted and destroyed 502 Ukrainian fixed-wing drones overnight on August 12, according to the Russian Defense Ministry.
The UAVs were shot down over the Belgorod, Bryansk, Kaluga, Kursk, Lipetsk and Oryol regions, Krasnodar Region and the Republic of Crimea, as well as over the Black Sea.
Another 42 Ukrainian drones were destroyed the previous day between 8:00 a.m. and 8:00 p.m. Moscow time. The Defense Ministry said they were intercepted over the Belgorod, Bryansk, Kursk and Orenburg regions, Crimea and the Sea of Azov.
The overnight attack caused particularly severe damage in Krasnodar Region. Regional Governor Veniamin Kondratyev said several hundred Ukrainian Armed Forces drones targeted the region throughout the night. Civilian sites and residential buildings in Novorossiysk, Anapa, Gelendzhik and the Temryuk District were again struck in the attack, leaving people dead and injured, including children.
An eight-year-old child was killed in Novorossiysk. Kondratyev instructed Novorossiysk Mayor Andrey Kravchenko to provide the family with all necessary assistance. Eight more people, including one child, were injured and hospitalized. They can be transferred to regional medical facilities if necessary.
Drone debris has so far fallen on 21 residential buildings, including apartment blocks, as well as on the grounds of four enterprises. Emergency and special services are working at the affected sites, while a municipal commission is expected to assess the damage.
Temporary accommodation centers have also been opened for residents, with around 90 people currently staying there.
Another person was killed in the settlement of Volna in the Temryuk District. Drone fragments fell into the yard of a private house and wounded a man. Doctors attempted to save him, but he died from his injuries.
In Anapa, falling UAV debris damaged a residential building. Two people were injured and received medical treatment, but neither required hospitalization.
Three private homes were damaged in Gelendzhik. Two more people were injured and taken to a medical facility.
A civilian was also killed in Crimea. Head of the Republic of Crimea Sergey Aksyonov said the man died overnight in the settlement of Novoselovskoye in the Razdolnensky District during a drone attack on the peninsula.
