Russian troops used an unusual method to disable large numbers of Ukrainian Armed Forces drones during the fighting for Toretskoye in the Donetsk People’s Republic. FPV drones fitted with nylon cords were deployed to protect assault units, RIA Novosti was told by Rakhim Rakhimov, an assault soldier with the 102nd Guards Regiment of Russia’s Center group of forces, call sign «Taiwan.»

Countering enemy drones played one of the key roles during the liberation of the settlement, according to Rakhimov. Cover FPV drones were sent toward detected UAVs and maneuvered above them so that the attached nylon cords could catch their propellers.

Once the cord became entangled in the blades, the propellers jammed, causing the drone to lose control and fall.

Rakhimov described the method as highly effective, saying Russian troops had destroyed several dozen Ukrainian drones this way.

The downed aircraft included heavy Baba Yaga and Vampir hexacopters, as well as FPV drones and reconnaissance UAVs.

The Russian Defense Ministry reported on August 9 that units of the Center group of forces had liberated Toretskoye in the DPR.
