A scout from the 9th Reconnaissance Battalion of Russia’s Center group of forces made it back from the AFU rear carrying a phone and a map with information on Ukrainian troop positions along the front line. His withdrawal across an open field under fire was covered by a smoke screen.

The commander of a reconnaissance platoon with the call sign Kopeyka told TASS that the scout, known by the call sign Kain, had taken the phone and map from a Ukrainian serviceman before finding himself effectively surrounded. He then had to make his way back under heavy enemy fire.

Kain could not use a nearby forest belt because Ukrainian troops were positioned there and could have intercepted him. Kopeyka therefore requested assistance from an allied unit. Three smoke shells were fired across the field, concealing the scout’s movement from the opposing forces.

According to the platoon commander, the items belonged to a Ukrainian special forces serviceman. The phone contained information about AFU positions along the front, while similar data had also been marked on the map.

The effort to bring Kain back was directed by the battalion commander, Hero of Russia with the call sign Lotos. The scout eventually reached Russian positions, completing the operation successfully.
