Russia and Ukraine have carried out another exchange of the bodies of fallen servicemen, according to Shamsail Saraliyev, a representative of the parliamentary coordination group on the special military operation.

Saraliyev told RBC that Russia handed over 261 bodies to Kiev, while Moscow received 24.

The previous exchange took place on July 16. At that time, Russia received 31 bodies of fallen servicemen, while Ukraine was handed 501.

The most recent prisoner exchange was held on June 26, when the two sides transferred 160 servicemen each.

Russian President Vladimir Putin previously said that since the beginning of 2025, Russia had returned more than 20,000 bodies to Ukraine while receiving just over 500. He made the statement in April during a conversation with US President Donald Trump.

At the end of July, Russian human rights commissioner Yana Lantratova said preparations were under way for another exchange, without naming a specific date.

She later said Moscow had approved a list of 224 Ukrainians convicted of crimes committed on Russian territory. The following day, Lantratova also stated that Russia was ready to hand over another 273 Ukrainian servicemen.
