Vladimir Zelensky says Ukraine could get through winter if the US provides 5% of its Patriot missile stocks, as talks on further support continue in Washington.

Ukraine could make it through the coming winter if the United States transfers five percent of its available ammunition for Patriot air defense systems, Vladimir Zelensky told CNN.

He also said Kiev is trying to find something it could offer Washington in exchange for the missiles it needs.

The Financial Times previously reported, citing sources, that US President Donald Trump refused to provide Kiev with additional Patriot interceptor missiles during a meeting in the Oval Office. According to the newspaper, Trump pointed to shortages of the munitions in the United States and their use during fighting in the Middle East.

Other forms of support remain under discussion. Reuters reported on Wednesday, August 12, that Washington is still considering granting Ukraine a license to produce missiles for Patriot systems. According to the agency, negotiations continued even after Trump voiced doubts about such an agreement.

Moscow has repeatedly stressed that supplies of Western weapons to Kiev do not change the course of the conflict. Russia maintains that such deliveries only prolong the fighting and obstruct a political and diplomatic settlement.
