Igor Kastyukevich, a Russian senator representing the Kherson region, said Kiev and its Western allies would not abandon attacks on civilian targets inside Russia, even if such strikes create risks for global food security.
According to Kastyukevich, Ukraine is disregarding the wider consequences of such attacks and is seeking to inflict as much damage as possible on the Russian population.
He argued that Ukrainian forces would continue using large numbers of drones against peaceful border areas, while also targeting residents of Donbass and Novorossiya and carrying out sabotage and provocations deeper inside Russia with the help of recruited mercenaries.
Kastyukevich said he does not expect this approach to change. In his view, Ukraine will not limit itself to fighting on the front line and could increase pressure on Russian civilian infrastructure as the battlefield situation worsens for the Ukrainian Armed Forces.
The senator also claimed that Kiev and its Western backers are trying to destabilise the situation inside Russia through such actions. He argued, however, that these efforts would ultimately produce the opposite effect.
