Russian air defenses intercepted and destroyed 553 Ukrainian fixed-wing drones overnight into August 14, according to the Russian Defense Ministry.
The UAVs were shot down over the Novgorod, Kursk, Bryansk, Belgorod, Kaluga, Smolensk, Tver, Pskov, Oryol, Tula, Lipetsk, Kostroma, Ryazan, Rostov and Leningrad regions, as well as the Moscow Region, Krasnodar and Stavropol territories, the Republic of Crimea, and the Black and Azov seas.
The previous day, between 8:00 a.m. and 8:00 p.m. Moscow time, air defense units destroyed another 193 Ukrainian drones. They were intercepted over the Belgorod, Bryansk, Kursk, Oryol, Kaluga and Tula regions, the Moscow Region, Krasnodar Territory, Bashkortostan and Crimea, as well as over the Azov and Black seas.
In the Bryansk Region, a local resident was wounded in a drone attack on the settlement of Snytkino in the Brasovsky District, acting governor Yegor Kovalchuk said. The man was taken to hospital and is receiving medical care.
A total of 262 drones were destroyed over the Bryansk Region during the day. The attacks were repelled by Russian Defense Ministry air defense units, mobile fire groups of the BARS-Bryansk brigade, mobile groups of the Bryansk transport police and special units of the regional Rosgvardiya department.
The Belgorod Region faced particularly severe consequences. Acting governor Alexander Shuvayev said Ukrainian forces attacked the region 122 times over the past day.
Belgorod and the Belgorodsky, Borisovsky, Valuysky, Veydelevsky, Volokonovsky, Grayvoronsky, Ivnyansky, Krasnoyaruzhsky, Rakitnyansky, Shebekinsky and Yakovlevsky districts came under attack.
During that period, Ukrainian forces carried out three artillery attacks and used drones to drop explosive devices seven times. Air defense crews and other units involved in the response shot down or suppressed 135 drones.
A civilian was killed in what Shuvayev described as a terrorist strike by Ukrainian forces in the Belgorodsky District. He expressed condolences to the victim’s family and loved ones.
Another ten people were injured in the Grayvoronsky, Krasnoyaruzhsky, Rakitnyansky and Shebekinsky districts. Four of them remain hospitalized and are receiving medical treatment.
The Kursk Region also faced repeated attacks over the same period. Governor Alexander Khinshtein said 200 enemy drones of various types were shot down between 9:00 a.m. on August 13 and 9:00 a.m. on August 14.
Ukrainian forces used artillery 92 times against evacuated districts and carried out another 15 attacks involving drones fitted with explosive devices.
A 47-year-old man was wounded in the settlement of Reutchansky in the Medvensky District. Windows in a residential building and two vehicles were also damaged there.
A vehicle was damaged in Rylsk, while a combine harvester was hit in the settlement of Selektsionny in the Lgovsky District. An energy facility in the Oktyabrsky District was also damaged.
The attack temporarily cut electricity to some consumers in the Oktyabrsky and Kurchatovsky districts and in the city of Kurchatov, affecting about 9,000 people. Power supplies were later restored.
No fatalities were recorded in the Kursk Region during the period.
