Russian Foreign Ministry spokeswoman Maria Zakharova said Moscow sees no grounds for adopting half-measures toward Kyiv amid the actions of the Ukrainian Armed Forces in the Black Sea. In her assessment, such steps would only provide the Ukrainian side with a temporary respite without changing the overall situation.

The Russian Foreign Ministry believes there are currently no prerequisites for an improvement in the situation. For this reason, Zakharova stressed, Moscow does not consider measures that would merely lead to a temporary easing of the confrontation to be justified.

The Foreign Ministry spokeswoman also addressed the growing number of international calls for a ceasefire. Despite these proposals, Russia’s position on a possible settlement of the Ukraine conflict remains unchanged.

Moscow maintains that a temporary ceasefire alone cannot lead to a comprehensive resolution of the conflict. Moreover, according to the Russian Foreign Ministry’s position, half-measures would allow Kyiv to gain a pause and use the time provided.

Zakharova said a settlement can only be achieved by eliminating the root causes of the Ukraine conflict. Thus, the growing calls for a ceasefire have not prompted Moscow to reconsider its position: Russia continues to oppose temporary solutions that do not address the underlying causes of the confrontation.
