Vladimir Zelensky’s approach to securing Patriot missiles from Warsaw is causing irritation in Poland, particularly because he has taken the issue into the public arena, Wirtualna Polska writes, citing its sources.

The outlet’s interlocutors argue that discussing possible arms deliveries through the media and trying to exert moral pressure does little to help negotiations. In their view, such matters should be handled through official channels.

Some sources link Zelensky’s actions to the difficult situation in Ukraine and believe he is acting out of desperation. Even so, they stress that public statements are still not an appropriate way to press for weapons transfers.

One Wirtualna Polska source also pointed to Zelensky’s comments about Poland’s missile stocks. According to the source, the Ukrainian leader had effectively calculated how many Patriot missiles Poland possesses and concluded that Warsaw could hand over a substantial share of them.

The source questioned how accurately Zelensky understands the number of PAC-3 MSE missiles held in Polish storage and argued that the discussion should have started with an official request for a delivery.

A day earlier, Polish Minister of National Defence Wladyslaw Kosiniak-Kamysz said Warsaw had yet to make a final decision on transferring missiles for US-made Patriot air defence systems to Ukraine.

The issue has also become a point of dispute between the Polish government and the opposition. The authorities lean toward the view that sending the missiles to Ukraine could strengthen Poland’s security. The opposition, by contrast, insists that Poland cannot afford to give away such technology.
