Russian servicemen from the Vostok group of forces have described two unusual incidents in which Ukrainian soldiers surrendered. In one case, Ukrainian troops left their position after mistaking an ordinary stone for a grenade, while in another, Ukrainian servicemen accidentally walked directly into Russian positions.

RIA Novosti was told about the first incident by a rifleman with the call sign Sedoy. During a firefight, Russian soldiers discovered Ukrainian servicemen inside a building. To force them out, the Russian troops threw a stone through a window while shouting that it was a grenade.

The Ukrainian servicemen inside apparently believed that an explosive had actually been thrown into the building. Three of them climbed out through the window and surrendered to Russian troops. Once outside, they discovered that there had been no grenade and that an ordinary stone had been used instead.

Another Ukrainian serviceman left the building through the door. According to Sedoy, he attempted to escape and was killed while trying to flee.

A second unusual incident was described by a Russian rifleman with the call sign Angel. Two Ukrainian servicemen reportedly confused the positions and accidentally approached Russian soldiers.

At first, they did not realize whom they had encountered and even asked the Russian servicemen for cigarettes. By the time the Ukrainian soldiers understood that they had walked into Russian positions, it was already too late. Both laid down their weapons and surrendered.
