Russia’s Defence Ministry said air defence forces intercepted and destroyed 822 Ukrainian fixed-wing drones over Russian regions during the night.

According to the ministry, the interceptions took place between 20:00 Moscow time on August 15 and 08:00 on August 16.

The drones were reportedly shot down over the Belgorod, Bryansk, Vladimir, Volgograd, Voronezh, Kaluga, Kursk, Lipetsk, Nizhny Novgorod, Oryol, Rostov, Ryazan, Tambov and Tula regions, as well as over the Moscow region, Krasnodar Territory and Crimea. Some UAVs were also intercepted over the Sea of Azov and the Black Sea.

The Moscow region faced one of the heaviest waves. Moscow Mayor Sergei Sobyanin said around 600 drones had been heading towards the capital from Saturday evening until 06:30 on Sunday. A total of 201 UAVs were destroyed in the wider Moscow region, while three people were injured near the Moscow Ring Road.

Moscow Region Governor Alexander Vorobyov said 187 drones were shot down across the region overnight. Interceptions were reported in Domodedovo, Podolsk, Stupino, Odintsovo, Naro-Fominsk, Ramenskoye, Chekhov, Kolomna, Kashira and Yegoryevsk.

Three people were injured in Podolsk, where a Wildberries warehouse caught fire in the Koledino industrial park. A medical supplies warehouse burned in Domodedovo, while a police department building was damaged in Kashira. Separate structures at an industrial facility were damaged in Voskresensk.

In the Kaluga region, 13 drones were destroyed. Fragments from one UAV damaged the windows of an apartment in a multi-storey residential building in Kaluga.

Five people were killed and one was injured in the Rostov region. More than 150 drones and missiles were destroyed there, with attacks affecting Kamensk-Shakhtinsky, Gukovo, Donetsk and nine other districts. Several buildings were damaged, including a railway station in Kamensk, as well as residential properties.

Air defence forces also destroyed 15 Ukrainian drones over the Tula region. Preliminary reports indicated no casualties or damage to buildings and infrastructure.

Acting Bryansk Region Governor Yegor Kovalchuk said 145 fixed-wing drones were destroyed over the region during the night.
