Russian forces continued striking port facilities and vessels used in support of the Ukrainian military on the afternoon of August 16, according to the Russian Defense Ministry. The ministry reported several hits in the Odessa area and across the Black Sea.
In Belgorod-Dnestrovsky, about 40 kilometers from Odessa, the strikes hit a production workshop and a warehouse storing warheads and components for unmanned surface vessels. The Russian Defense Ministry said those craft had been used in attacks on energy infrastructure and Russian cities along the Black Sea coast.
Near Vilkovo, Russian forces targeted a mooring site used by Ukrainian Navy patrol boats. According to the ministry, the vessels had been involved in escorting ships carrying military cargo and fuel.
Three dry cargo ships and two tankers were struck in the port of Odessa. The vessels were reportedly being used to deliver fuel and lubricants. Fuel storage tanks and warehouses containing military supplies were also hit.
East of Odessa, Russian forces also struck a dry cargo vessel in the Black Sea. The Russian Defense Ministry said the ship was transporting Western-made weapons to Ukraine.
Earlier, overnight from August 15 to 16, the Russian military carried out a series of strikes on military targets in Ukraine’s rear areas. Ukrainian air defenses failed to intercept any of the ballistic missiles launched during that attack.
