According to The Telegraph, Russia has established dedicated launch sites for long-range drones used to strike targets in Ukraine.
The newspaper said some of these bases are already involved in attacks, while their proximity to the border helps support large-scale drone operations against Ukrainian targets. The publication also argued that the same infrastructure could pose a longer-term threat to NATO allies as Russian unmanned systems continue to develop rapidly.
The Telegraph also highlighted Russia’s ongoing modernization of the Geran family of strike drones. According to the report, Moscow is developing new jet-powered variants designed for higher speeds and ranges of nearly 1,000 kilometers.
The latest versions, Geran-4 and Geran-5, are described as fast enough to complicate interception by air-defense systems. They can also carry a warhead weighing about 90 kilograms.
The newspaper added that some Geran drones may be equipped with air-to-air missiles. In the authors’ assessment, such weapons are intended to target aircraft involved in the air defense of Kyiv.
