Drone crews from Russia’s 71st Guards Motor Rifle Division of the Sever group have destroyed more than 85 Baba-Yaga attack hexacopters in the Kharkov Region since the beginning of August, according to a Russian unit commander using the call sign Svat.
He said crews from the division’s unmanned systems units had downed more than 85 R-18 drones, commonly known as Baba-Yaga, over the buffer zone in the Kharkov Region during the first two weeks of August.
According to Svat, Ukrainian forces use the heavy drones for attacks, including strikes on civilians and civilian infrastructure. Russian troops employ several methods to intercept them.
One approach involves detonating the warhead of an interceptor drone remotely near the target. Russian drones also destroy Baba-Yaga hexacopters by directly ramming them.
Svat added that the system used to monitor and detect aerial targets is being continuously improved. He also said coordination between different Russian military units plays an important role in the effectiveness of drone crews.
