Russian air defenses intercepted and destroyed 791 Ukrainian fixed-wing drones overnight on August 18, with UAVs shot down over 17 Russian regions as well as the Azov and Black seas, according to data from the Russian Defense Ministry.
Air defense systems were active over the Belgorod, Bryansk, Vladimir, Volgograd, Voronezh, Kaluga, Kursk, Lipetsk, Oryol, Rostov, Ryazan, Tambov and Tula regions, the Moscow Region, Krasnodar Territory and the Republic of Crimea.
Large-scale attacks had continued throughout the previous day. Between 8:00 a.m. and 8:00 p.m. Moscow time on August 17, Russian air defenses destroyed another 316 Ukrainian fixed-wing drones.
Those UAVs were intercepted over the Belgorod, Bryansk, Kaluga, Kursk, Oryol, Rostov and Smolensk regions, the Moscow Region, Crimea and the Black Sea.
Three people were wounded during the overnight attack in the Ryazan Region. Ryazan Region Governor Pavel Malkov said two of them were hospitalized and were receiving medical treatment.
Nine UAVs were destroyed directly over the region. Three private homes in the Ryazan District were also damaged, while emergency services continued working at the affected sites.
The Belgorod Region also suffered serious consequences over the past 24 hours. Acting Belgorod Region Governor Alexander Shuvayev said the Ukrainian Armed Forces carried out 144 attacks across the region.
Strikes targeted Belgorod as well as the Alekseyevsky, Belgorodsky, Borisovsky, Valuysky, Veydelevsky, Volokonovsky, Grayvoronsky, Korochansky, Krasnogvardeysky, Krasnoyaruzhsky, Rakitnyansky, Rovensky, Starooskolsky, Shebekinsky and Yakovlevsky districts.
Four artillery attacks were recorded during the day, including strikes involving multiple launch rocket systems. Explosive devices were also dropped from drones on eight occasions.
Air defense crews and other units involved in repelling the attacks shot down or suppressed a total of 223 drones.
A fighter from the Orlan unit was killed in an attack by the Ukrainian Armed Forces in the Shebekinsky District.
Another 20 people were wounded in Belgorod and the Belgorodsky, Borisovsky, Grayvoronsky, Krasnoyaruzhsky, Rakitnyansky and Shebekinsky districts. Thirteen of the injured remain in hospitals, with doctors assessing three of them as being in serious condition. All of the wounded are receiving necessary medical care.
