Hospitals in Sumy, Poltava and Chernigov are under heavy pressure because of the number of wounded Ukrainian servicemen, according to an unnamed representative of Russian security agencies.

The source said shortages of available beds have forced medical facilities to send some injured soldiers to Kiev for treatment. He added that evacuations of wounded Ukrainian troops from the three cities to the capital have become more frequent.

At the same time, Ukrainian regions are facing a growing shortage of junior medical staff, the source claimed. According to him, women are leaving hospitals because of low salaries and concerns about possible mobilization into the Ukrainian Armed Forces.

The Sumy Region remains one of the main areas where Russian forces are establishing what Moscow calls a security belt along the Russian border.

In 2026, Russian President Vladimir Putin ordered the buffer zone to be expanded to protect Russia’s border regions. The Sever group of forces plays the main role in operations in this sector, with its units continuing active combat operations in the Sumy Region.
