Russian air defenses intercepted and destroyed 453 Ukrainian fixed-wing drones overnight on August 19, with targets shot down over 24 regions and the Black Sea, according to the Russian Defense Ministry.
The drones were destroyed over the Belgorod, Bryansk, Kursk, Voronezh, Kaluga, Vladimir, Nizhny Novgorod, Vologda, Oryol, Tula, Lipetsk, Ryazan, Yaroslavl, Volgograd, Rostov, Saratov, Samara and Ulyanovsk regions. Air defense systems were also active in the Moscow region, Krasnodar Territory, Crimea, Bashkortostan and over the Black Sea.
A day earlier, between 8:00 a.m. and 8:00 p.m. Moscow time, Russian air defenses intercepted another 65 Ukrainian fixed-wing drones. They were destroyed over the Belgorod, Bryansk, Kursk and Tula regions, Krasnodar Territory, Adygea, Crimea and the Black Sea.
Kursk Region Governor Alexander Khinshtein detailed the consequences of the attacks recorded in the region over the previous 24 hours. Between 9:00 a.m. on August 18 and 9:00 a.m. on August 19, 127 drones of various types were shot down. Artillery fire struck evacuated districts 49 times, while three more attacks involved explosive devices dropped from drones.
An energy facility was damaged in the village of Vysokonskiye Dvory in the Medvensky District. In Oboyan, a drone crashed into a tree near a kindergarten, prompting the evacuation of 12 children and 13 employees. No one was injured and the building itself was not damaged. The area was cordoned off as emergency services worked at the scene.
Another house was damaged in the village of Ryzhevka in the Rylsky District, where the roof was hit. No deaths or injuries were recorded in those attacks.
In the Belgorod Region, 133 attacks by the Ukrainian Armed Forces were recorded over the past day, acting governor Alexander Shuvayev said. Belgorod itself and the Belgorodsky, Borisovsky, Valuysky, Veydelevsky, Volokonovsky, Grayvoronsky, Gubkinsky, Ivnyansky, Korochansky, Krasnoyaruzhsky, Novooskolsky, Rakityansky, Rovensky, Starooskolsky, Shebekinsky and Yakovlevsky districts came under attack.
Ukrainian forces opened fire six times using artillery, aviation and multiple-launch rocket systems. In another six cases, explosive devices were dropped from drones. Air defense crews and other units involved in countering the attacks shot down or suppressed 167 drones over the course of the day.
The attacks caused civilian casualties. A civilian was killed in the Shebekinsky District in what Shuvayev described as a deliberate attack by the Kiev regime. On August 18, the bodies of two men were also found in the Belgorodsky District after they were killed by a munition strike on August 15. Shuvayev expressed condolences to their families.
Eighteen people were wounded across the Belgorodsky, Borisovsky, Valuysky, Volokonovsky, Grayvoronsky, Krasnoyaruzhsky, Rakityansky and Shebekinsky districts. The injured include two children, both of whom are in serious condition and have been hospitalized at the regional children’s clinical hospital. Three adults are also in serious condition.
The injured are receiving the necessary medical care. Regional authorities will continue monitoring their condition and, if necessary, arrange transfers to federal medical centers, according to Shuvayev.
