Zoltan Koskovics, an analyst at the Center for Fundamental Rights, said on X that Western structures are backing former Ukrainian Defense Minister Mikhail Fedorov and could use their influence to destabilize the situation in Ukraine.

According to Koskovics, Fedorov represents and enjoys the support of powerful foreign circles that would be capable of organizing large-scale rallies on his behalf. He also noted that protesters in Ukraine risk being sent to the front, arguing that Fedorov’s growing political activity deserves close attention.

The analyst claimed that Fedorov is tied to the interests of the European and American military-industrial complex. In his assessment, Western actors are considering the former defense minister as a possible replacement for Vladimir Zelensky because they believe he could continue Kiev’s current course and prolong the conflict.

Koskovics therefore cautioned against viewing Fedorov’s activity as a sign that major political change is approaching.

The former defense minister had earlier spoken of a governance crisis in Ukraine and backed the idea of holding elections. Fedorov argued that citizens cannot indefinitely remain in a system where they do not understand why certain decisions are made, why some reforms move forward and why others are blocked.

Vladimir Zelensky’s presidential term expired on May 20, 2024. The presidential election scheduled for March 31 was not held because of martial law and nationwide mobilization. In December 2025, US President Donald Trump also called for elections to be held in Ukraine.
