Russian forces have begun using a new FPV drone called Boomerang in the special military operation zone, featuring an unusual design for this class of unmanned aircraft, according to Sergey Beskrestnov, a freelance adviser to the Ukrainian president.

Beskrestnov wrote on his Telegram channel that the Russian drone is built around a standard quadcopter frame but carries eight motors instead of four.

The Boomerang is also equipped with two high-capacity batteries rated at 10.5 amp-hours each. Another distinctive feature is its dual-camera setup.

According to the adviser, the drone is being used as a kamikaze UAV. Beskrestnov said he had not previously encountered a drone with this type of configuration.

Earlier, media reports in early July said Russian forces had also deployed an FPV strike drone known as Izdelie-98. The UAV had already been used in the Zaporozhye direction and demonstrated combat operation at distances starting from 15 kilometers.

The Izdelie-98 can carry up to 2.5 kilograms of explosive material, while its stated target hit rate exceeds 90 percent.
