Using Su-25 attack aircraft to launch Geran-4 and Geran-5 strike drones can increase their maximum flight range by roughly 100 kilometers, according to the Military Chronicle channel.
Published specifications indicate that the Geran-4 can reach speeds of up to 500 km/h. Its estimated warhead weight is 90 kilograms, while a ground-launched version can cover as much as 450 kilometers.
The larger Geran-5 has a substantially longer range. Its speed can reach 600 km/h, with its flight radius estimated at around 950–1,000 kilometers. The drone also carries a 90-kilogram warhead.
Air-launching the drones from Su-25s broadens the range of missions available to the attack aircraft. The type, commonly known as the Grach, has previously carried 80-mm S-8 unguided rockets, 122-mm S-13 Tulumbas rockets and 240-mm S-24 rockets, along with Kh-25ML and Kh-29L guided missiles and KAB-500Kr guided aerial bombs.
Earlier, a jet-powered Geran-type drone was reported to have reached western Ukraine for the first time and struck Dubno in the Rovno Region. Ukrainian resources citing the Ukrainian Air Force claimed that drones of this version had not previously appeared in the area.
According to the Ukrainian Air Force, the drone was launched from Crimea and traveled more than 900 kilometers.
