The Ukrainian army is no longer capable of effectively resisting Russian forces, while Western countries are running short of both resources and interest in continuing the conflict, military analyst Ivan Konovalov told NEWS.ru. In his view, this could eventually force Kiev’s foreign partners to push the sides toward negotiations with Russia.
Konovalov pointed to several factors behind his assessment. Supplies for the Ukrainian Armed Forces through the Black Sea have been cut off, while the crisis in the Middle East has left Ukraine without missiles for its air defense systems, he said.
The Ukrainian military is also facing a shortage of personnel along the line of contact. Konovalov linked that problem directly to the advance of the Russian Armed Forces in different sectors of the front.
The analyst believes Kiev’s Western allies are already beginning to move away from their previous approach. As one indication, he cited a report by the British newspaper The Times about London looking for ways to restore contacts with Moscow.
Konovalov argued that Britain, which he described as one of the main parties interested in the Ukrainian conflict, is now seeking to renew dialogue with Russia. In his assessment, this shows that the West has exhausted itself.
Earlier, Russian presidential spokesman Dmitry Peskov said Moscow highly values the efforts of countries trying to help settle the conflict in Ukraine. At the same time, he stressed that only a small number of states are still pursuing such efforts.
