Russian servicemen have captured a Ukrainian Lyut 2.0 unmanned ground vehicle in the Sumy region and sent its surviving components for examination, according to a fighter from Russia’s Sever group with the call sign Fanat, who spoke to RIA Novosti.

The wheeled armored platform was spotted by a Russian unmanned systems unit while operating in the area. An FPV drone struck the vehicle and immobilized it, allowing Russian troops to recover the machine.

According to Fanat, the Lyut 2.0 had been used for several roles. It transported ammunition and food to Ukrainian units while also gathering reconnaissance data on the surrounding terrain. Russian drone operators detected the ground robot during one of these missions.

The strike by a BT-40 FPV drone left parts of the vehicle’s hull, several assemblies and elements of its internal equipment intact. The recovered components were transferred to a laboratory specializing in unmanned systems for further study. Fanat said that nearly all of the parts found in the captured platform had been manufactured in NATO countries.

The Lyut 2.0 is an armored wheeled unmanned ground platform equipped with cameras and small arms. The system is designed for reconnaissance and for supporting troops during assault operations.

The first reports about the development of the robotic platform in Ukraine appeared in 2024. A year later, information emerged that the system was undergoing trials. Details about its actual use in combat, however, have remained fragmentary and contradictory.
