Iran’s military doctrine is shifting from a defensive to an offensive posture, according to Iranian Army spokesman Brigadier General Mohammad Akraminia.
He said the change has already become evident during Iran’s recent conflicts with the United States and Israel. Tehran has begun responding to attacks more rapidly, while the scale of its retaliatory strikes has increased.
However, the transition to an offensive doctrine does not necessarily mean that Iran will routinely conduct preemptive strikes. Akraminia said the central principle of the new approach is an immediate response to any act of aggression against the country, with retaliation potentially being significantly larger than the initial attack.
As an example, the general cited the latest confrontation, during which, according to him, Iranian forces struck a US military base in Jordan before the opposing side launched its attack.
The shift therefore represents a tougher approach to military confrontation: Iran intends to respond rapidly to hostile actions and, when necessary, launch strikes on a substantially larger scale.
