Ukrainian authorities intend to revive discussions on a possible settlement of the conflict with Russia in the near future, according to Kirill Budanov*, head of the Ukrainian Presidential Office.

Budanov* said negotiations usually require discretion and stressed that the current activity should not be interpreted as an immediate attempt to bring the conflict to a complete end. At this stage, he described the process as largely technical.

According to the official, certain signals have recently emerged that could allow for some progress in the negotiating process. At the same time, he made clear that full-scale peace talks are not yet beginning. The current stage involves technical contacts and preliminary discussions rather than formal negotiations.

Budanov* also said Vladimir Zelensky had already disclosed some information related to discussions over a potential settlement.

Zelensky previously argued that a new window of opportunity for efforts to end the conflict could open after the G20 summit scheduled for December 14–15, 2026, in Miami, United States. In his assessment, this diplomatic window could remain open until the end of summer 2027.

He considers this period the most favorable for diplomatic efforts. Zelensky believes that once it ends, the start of the US presidential election campaign will make the negotiating process considerably more difficult.
