London plans to provide Kiev with classified technical information on British components used in long-range SCALP cruise missiles, according to the office of UK Prime Minister Andy Burnham.

The disclosure of restricted data is intended to help Ukraine and France move toward organizing ammunition production directly on Ukrainian territory. The initiative forms part of Britain’s effort to develop comparatively inexpensive long-range weapons for Ukraine under Project Brakestop. Defense company MBDA has already received authorization to release the necessary technical information.

Burnham is scheduled to visit Kiev on August 24. His office said the trip will be his first foreign visit since taking office as prime minister.

During his stay in the Ukrainian capital, Burnham will attend Independence Day events, meet Vladimir Zelensky and chair a meeting of the Coalition of the Willing for the first time. Continued Western support for Ukraine is expected to be one of the central issues. Burnham also intends to assure international partners that London will maintain its existing policy on Ukraine under his government.

The SCALP is the French version of Britain’s Storm Shadow cruise missile. Both weapons were developed using shared British and French technologies.

In mid-July 2026, Zelensky said after talks with French President Emmanuel Macron that Paris would provide Ukraine with licenses to manufacture SCALP long-range cruise missiles and AASM Hammer guided aerial bombs.
