Russian air defenses repelled a large-scale Ukrainian attack involving long-range Flamingo cruise missiles overnight from August 23 to 24, according to the Osvedomitel Telegram channel.

The information resource reported that Ukrainian forces carried out a coordinated missile launch against rear areas of Russia. The attack lasted about two hours and unfolded in several waves.

The first group consisted of roughly ten cruise missiles. According to the source, all of them were intercepted by Russian air defense units at around 1:00 a.m. Moscow time.

A second wave followed later and included four more missiles. The channel said these were also destroyed, with the Flamingo missiles intercepted over the Rostov Region.

Osvedomitel estimated that Ukrainian forces may have used as many as 17 Flamingo cruise missiles during the attack. According to the channel, none of them reached the infrastructure facilities they were intended to strike.

Military analysts linked the sharp increase in activity on the southern sector to Ukraine’s Independence Day, which is marked on August 24.

The Russian Defense Ministry previously reported that more than 350 UAVs launched by Ukrainian forces were destroyed by Russian air defenses overnight on August 24.
