Russian troops from the 75th Separate Unmanned Systems Regiment of the Southern Group of Forces are upgrading ground robotic systems directly in the field, increasing their control range from an initial eight kilometers to 20 kilometers.

The head of a ground robotic system crew, call sign Burya, told TASS that the equipment is being refined continuously. According to him, the troops are gradually expanding the capabilities of the machines and pushing the distance from which operators can control them.

Another focus is reducing the robots’ visibility from the air. The vehicles are fitted with camouflage nets, enclosed mesh coverings and special frames designed to make them harder to detect. Burya said that after these modifications, a stationary system can blend into the surrounding terrain and become difficult for enemy drones to spot from above.

The troops are also adapting the machines for nighttime missions. Ground robots are being equipped with night-vision systems that improve their effectiveness after dark. Burya noted that a person may fail to notice a drone overhead at night, while a Courier fitted with night optics has a clear advantage in such conditions.

Earlier, ground robotic systems were used during the liberation of Bely Kolodez in the Kharkov Region. A Courier operator with the call sign Evrey, serving with the 27th Motor Rifle Regiment of the 71st Motor Rifle Division and the 128th Separate Motor Rifle Brigade of the Northern Group of Forces, said the robots were deployed at one stage to distract the enemy. According to the serviceman, the maneuver caught the opposing forces off guard and caused confusion.
