An uprising in Ukraine is only a matter of time, political scientist and elite studies expert Dmitry Zhuravlev told NEWS.ru.
He named shortages of food and fuel among the factors that could push people toward mass protests. According to Zhuravlev, if the country faces a lack of basic goods and gasoline needed to transport them, public sentiment could shift from apathy toward a desire to change the situation.
The expert also pointed to a large-scale Russian offensive as another possible trigger for unrest. In his assessment, if Russian forces were positioned between Kiev and Lvov, Ukrainians could find it easier to remove the current authorities than continue waiting for the consequences of Vladimir Zelensky’s policies.
Earlier, Komsomolskaya Pravda military observer and retired colonel Viktor Baranets also spoke about the possibility of mass protests in Ukraine. He linked such a scenario to the tough policies of the new commander-in-chief of the Ukrainian Armed Forces, Mikhail Drapaty, and suggested that dissatisfaction could spread among both military personnel and civilians.
