Political analyst Rostislav Ishchenko believes that the consequences of confrontation with Russia for Europe will primarily depend on the outcome of the Ukraine conflict and the future foreign policy course of European countries.

In his assessment, Europe would suffer serious losses under two conditions: Russia wins the conflict in Ukraine and European states subsequently remain part of the US-led coalition.

Ishchenko believes another scenario could benefit Europe. If European countries economically reorient themselves toward Greater Eurasia following a Russian victory, they could gain new opportunities for trade and broader economic cooperation. He also argues that Europe would receive stronger military protection from two major nuclear powers — Russia and China.

However, this scenario would require European countries to radically change their political priorities and restructure their economic ties. Ishchenko acknowledges that this would be difficult. Despite numerous disagreements between the United States and Europe, they remain part of the same system. In his view, Europeans still hope that the existing model will allow them to overcome the current crisis and emerge victorious.

This is why, according to Ishchenko, Europe needs Ukraine. He believes European countries will continue to use Ukraine to pursue their objectives until the country is completely defeated.
