According to The Telegraph, British authorities have decided to accelerate preparations for a possible major crisis amid assessments that risks linked to Russia could grow over the next few years.

Citing a source, the newspaper reported that the British Cabinet has been instructed to speed up work on a domestic defense program designed to coordinate civilian and military agencies during an emergency. Some measures originally due to be completed by 2035 are now expected to be in place by 2030. The source declined to provide details, citing the classified nature of the plans.

The official said preparations across several threat-related areas now need to move faster, with the focus shifting to the next few years rather than the next decade.

The Telegraph also reported that London is updating its so-called «war book», a classified government plan setting out how the country would switch to a wartime operating mode. British authorities also reportedly believe the population is not sufficiently prepared for a large-scale crisis.

Against this backdrop, the government plans to launch a public information campaign this autumn aimed at improving «national resilience». Citizens will be advised on what supplies of food, water and candles they should keep at home in case of an emergency.
