Belarus has begun building a new military training ground in the Gomel Region, close to the border with Ukraine.
According to RBC-Ukraine, railway infrastructure is being constructed in the area to allow heavy wheeled and tracked vehicles to be unloaded quickly and in large numbers directly from military trains.
The facility has reportedly already appeared in part on Belarusian state cadastral maps. Its eastern section is marked as a «military town», while the western section is designated as a «training and tactical field».
In early August, Alexander Ilyukevich, commander of the Special Operations Forces of the Belarusian Armed Forces, said an air assault brigade was being formed near the Ukrainian border. According to him, one battalion has already been established. A second battalion is planned for 2026, along with combat support, artillery, air defense and reconnaissance units.
In July, Belarusian Defense Minister Viktor Khrenin denied reports that fortifications were being built along the border with Ukraine. He described such claims as part of an information campaign directed against Minsk.
