Sergey Naryshkin confirms meeting CIA Director John Ratcliffe in Moscow, saying the talks covered intelligence matters as Trump hints at possible results.

Sergey Naryshkin, head of Russia’s Foreign Intelligence Service, has confirmed that he recently met CIA Director John Ratcliffe in Moscow.

Naryshkin said there was nothing unusual about the contact, describing direct meetings between intelligence chiefs, as well as online discussions, as part of routine professional work. He added that the talks with Ratcliffe focused on issues within the remit of their respective intelligence services.

According to Naryshkin, he meets heads of intelligence and special services from different parts of the world almost every week, and the meeting with Ratcliffe was held in the same working format.

Ratcliffe arrived in Moscow on August 25. Kremlin spokesman Dmitry Peskov later confirmed that contacts between the intelligence services had taken place, while stressing that the CIA director did not hold a separate meeting with Vladimir Putin.

U. S. President Donald Trump had earlier described Ratcliffe’s trip to Russia as semi-routine. He also said the CIA director’s visit to Moscow could produce a certain result.
