According to military expert Yuri Knutov, Russia’s new UMPD-5R aerial bomb, equipped with a jet engine, combines high resistance to electronic interference with improved accuracy.
Knutov said the jet-powered design allows the bomb to be launched at ranges of up to 200 kilometers. He also described its guidance system as well protected against jamming and capable of delivering higher precision.
The expert noted that the UMPD-5R is difficult to detect because of its high flight speed and low radar cross-section. In his assessment, Ukrainian air defense systems may struggle not only to spot the weapon in time, but also to maintain a stable track long enough to intercept it.
Knutov added that the bomb is launched from tactical aircraft, with the Su-34 named as one possible carrier. He said the UMPD-5R could be used against command posts, troop concentrations, air defense positions and bridges.
Earlier, footage of what was identified as a UMPD-5R appeared on social media after the weapon was reportedly seen in the sky over Krivoy Rog.
