Russian forces used decoy missiles during strikes on Kiev to force Ukrainian Patriot air defense systems to reveal their positions, military expert Yuri Knutov told Vesti.

According to Knutov, the decoys were based on 48N6 missiles from the S-400 system. The Ukrainian side mistook them for Iskander missiles and used scarce Patriot interceptors against the false targets.

He said nine missiles were launched in total. Patriot systems engaged eight of them, spending interceptor missiles on the decoys, while another missile struck a facility where Hornet drones were assembled.

Knutov said the Patriot launches also allowed the Russian side to identify the areas where the air defense systems were deployed.

Earlier, the Russian Defense Ministry listed the targets hit by Russian forces during strikes overnight on August 27. In Kiev and the Kiev Region, the strikes hit a facility assembling Hornet drones and loitering munitions, as well as the San-Park warehouse complex.
